Hey Feet....Start Walking

This is a directive to me.  (I was going to write "to myself," but that wouldn't be a very good grammatical start.)  I have been feeling a prompting by the Holy Spirit to take the reigns of the Feet Committee for several months now, but I have been dragging my proverbial feet.  None of the reasons for doing this were any good, so now is the time.  And the time is short, no matter what your eschatological perspective may be.

Matthew 28:18-20 -  And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

This sounds an awful lot like a direct command from the King of Kings.  But it's a command that the Church seems to take too lightly.  That, or it's "regular" congregants are all too willing to pass along to more qualified and experienced members.  But Jesus didn't say, "Go, Billy Graham, and make disciples of all the nations..."

If you're a born-again child of Christ, then this is your job.  If you are a missionary, pastor, plumber, brilliant CPA or a circus acrobat......this is your job.  You are a witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Let your light so shine.

I hope to bring to you, as a Feet member (or as a Foot), encouragement to share the Gospel through lessons from the Bible, as well as from outside resources if they hold up to biblical scrutiny.  I would also like to share personal experiences from Family Circle members who have had opportunities to share the Gospel.  So I would encourage you to share these stories with me along the way to promote boldness and confidence in sharing the Gospel in any part of our daily lives.

In addition to the above, and most important, task of the Feet Committee, we also want to:
1) Share opportunities at West Shore to share the Gospel, either locally or through short-term mission trips.
2) Give updates, needs and prayer requests of our long-term missionaries.
3) Get class members involved in this committee.  If you have a passion for spreading the Word and want to be a Foot, you could be a leader of:
       A) Organizing and promoting short-term mission trips
       B) Organizing and promoting local ministry opportunities, perhaps in conjunction with the Hands team.
       C) Keeping in touch with our long-term missionaries.
       D) Coming up with some other great idea that nobody has thought of yet.

So, that's where I'm beginning with the Feet Committee.  I hope and pray that it will be a fruitful endeavor for Family Circle.

Even though I've been a blogger now for about 30 minutes, I'm still not an expert.  I'm open to suggestions on how to communicate Feet related messages in the best way.  And I would always welcome and encourage commenting on any posts.

Dave, The Lead Foot
